How I Use It
As a homesteading, homeschooling family, I had decided to go more into School House Teachers elective section and find some fun homesteading based classes. Picking a few different topics on chickens, dairy goats and dogs. I have a peeking interest in setting up a herbal medical bag in our home to use in and out of the house and found a elective course on building your own “bug out bag”.
I am greatly impressed with the varity of subjects provided in their membership. As a homeschooling mom and doing our best to homestead in the city, I’ve found great benefit in using their tools to improve our education and our lifestyle. In the “elecetive courses” they provide many different topics from making your own bread, raising chicks, dairy goats, art electives, accounting, heritage crafts, high school home economics and so much more.
I clicked on their ‘homesteading’ lessons in the elective courses and found a wonderful course to go through. There is a lesson plan and downloaded links to each week during the lessson. You are also able to scroll down and choose which downloadable topic in the course you want to go through. Homesteading Lessons covers topics from soap making, healing salves, herbal vinegar cleaner, baby chicks to your homestead, preparing for the garden, how to can, and more!
We currently have chickens and dogs on our homestead, but I love to continue to read and learn about how other people set up their chicken coops or how they fed their hens. You can never stop learning about this stuff and it’s amazing! During the lesson she covered best dog breeds on the homestead and a few tips and tricks on training your dog to do what you want them to. There is another lesson on how to feed your dog when you run out of store-brought food, which I am all about, as we hardly ever get store bought food for our dog.
Yes, I did most of this lesson on my own, but that is what is so great about Schoolhouse Teachers. There is something for everyone! As I read through the lesson my kids did listen in at times. We are getting new chicks in the next couple weeks so I had our kids read through this lesson with me to refresh their memory on baby chick care. As you learn, your kids get to learn with you.
Herbal Bug Out Bag
During the Homestead Lessons she cover a ‘National Prepaedenss Month’ and building your own bug-out bag. Funny thing was I had been reading through an herbal medic book around the same time. Having both subjects aligning themselves I was able to use the work sheet from the bug-out bag, tips and suggesting in order to create our own herbal medic/bug out bag. I had also included my kids in this in order to teach them where things are place in case of an emergency with them needing to access it themselves for whatever reason.
There is plenty more exploring on the SchoolhouseTeacher.com site in store for us. I am so thankful to have this resource on my belt and cannot wait to watch my kids grow and learn with what they haveto offer. We have hardly scraped the surface in everything they can benefit us.
